Quick-Sip: 2007 Soléna Hyland Estate Pinot Noir - single vineyard complexity

Soléna Pinot Noir - Hyland Vineyard Estate (2007)
Soléna Estate
Pinot Noir
McMinnville AVA, OR
Third wine from Soléna Estates. This is another 2007 from a single estate.

Appearance: Clear, medium garnet red to clear rim

Nose: Clean, medium intensity, upper aromas of earth, tart or sour vegetal, ripe cherry, alcohol is a bit more noticeable, deeper aromas of darer cherry and plum, peat, earth

Palate: Dry, medium acidity, medium-full body, medium tannin, bright fruit, red fruit, sweet cherries, raspberry, soft oak on palate, medium-high finish
So another wine from the "difficult" year. This one however is completely sourced from estate owned Hyland Vineyards in the McMinnville (where I live!) AVA, a smaller sub-region of the Willamette Valley AVA. According to Solénas bottle notes this is also the first PN they've gotten from this particular vineyard. Small focus on this vineyard, timing, and harvest control are probably the primary reasons that regardless of the weather conditions in '07 they were able to produce a great bottle of wine. Thought the Grand Cuvée yesterday was good, this bottle is nice to compare to see how complexity goes up when grapes are sourced from a single vineyard.

Cheers!
